Fantastic S6 Episode 17(10/29/24)
It’s a new day in Fantastic City. At The Coffee Bean, Dannie and Kaylie are sitting in a booth. “I didn’t even know Bethany had a sister!” Dannie admits. “I’ve been hearing that a lot lately.” Kaylie notes. “Well I hope Dylan is able to convince her to come back to Fantastic with him. It may be of some comfort to Bethany after losing her mother to have another member of her family around, someone else who knew her mother.” Dannie suggests. “Or it could have the opposite effect and make things worse for her.” Kaylie says. “Well she knows Dylan is looking for Jasmine, doesn’t she?” Dannie asks. “She does now. I made the mistake of not saying anything to her at first, but I guess Andy accidentally let it slip. He didn’t know that I was keeping it a secret from Bethany, I guess Dylan didn’t tell him.” Kaylie says. “Oh boy. So after Bethany found out, what was her reaction?” Dannie asks. “She was angry, but when I offered to have Dylan call off the search, she told me not to.” Kaylie says. “It sounds like she’s open to the idea of a reconciliation then.” Dannie assumes. “I wouldn’t be too sure about that. The reason Bethany doesn’t have a problem with Dylan continuing his search for Jasmine is because she’s convinced that Jasmine won’t want to come to Fantastic.” Kaylie reveals. “What if she does? What happens then?” Dannie wonders. “That’s what I’m wondering.” Kaylie admits.
In Brooklyn, Dylan arrives at the front door of an apartment and checks his phone. “Okay, this matches up with the address I found online. Let’s see if I’m on the right track…” Dylan mutters. Dylan knocks on the door. Dylan waits for a moment, but no one opens the door. “Please don’t tell me I drove seven hours just for one one to answer the door…” Dylan mumbles. Dylan knocks again. “I’M COMING!” A voice can be heard screaming from inside. “Okay, no need to scream…” Dylan mutters. A woman in a robe answers the door. “Is there something I can help you with?” The woman questions, clearly annoyed. “I certainly hope so. Is your name Jasmine?” Dylan asks. “Who wants to know?” The woman asks. Dylan holds out his hand. “My name is Dylan Stanpatos, I’m a private investigator.” Dylan introduces himself. The woman doesn’t shake his hand and simply glares at him. “Not one for friendly introductions, got it. Would you mind if I come in?” Dylan asks. “I’m not even dressed.” The woman points out. “Right. I’d be more than happy to wait if you need me to.” Dylan says. “I also don’t make a habit of letting strange men into my apartment.” The woman adds. “Do you think I’m strange?” Dylan asks. “I don’t know anything about you, besides your name, which sounds totally fake by the way.” The woman says. Dylan smiles. “Fair point. I’d love to tell you all about why I’m here, but this is probably something you don’t want to be doing out here in the hallway. You know, nosy neighbors and all that.” Dylan says. The woman rolls her eyes. “Alright, just hang on one second while I get dressed.” The woman says. “Yeah, sure thing.” Dylan agrees. The woman closes the door and Dylan sighs. “She’s not coming back.” Dylan assumes. Dylan pulls out his phone and begins typing out a text to Kaylie. “Found a woman that I believe is Jasmine. Not sure how this is going to go but will let you know soon. And…send.” Dylan says, before hitting the send button. “Now fingers crossed that she isn’t climbing out the back window right now.” Dylan says. Dylan turns around when he hears the door opening. The door opens and the woman comes out, now fully dressed. “Still here?” The woman asks. Dylan smiles. “Still here.” Dylan says. The woman smiles back. “Good.” The woman says, before pulling out a bottle of pepper spray and spraying Dylan in the eyes! “AHHHHHHH!” Dylan screams out in pain!
At The Coffee Bean, Kaylie is looking down at her phone. “Oh! It looks like Dylan might have actually found Jasmine!” Kaylie reveals. “I figured if anyone could do it, it would be Dylan.” Dannie says. “Well I don’t know how this is going to go so now I’m really anxious. Can we talk about something else?” Kaylie asks. “Sure. What’s on your mind?” Dannie wonders. “Let me start off by asking how your uncle Victor is doing.” Kaylie says. Dannie sighs. “He’s still unconscious.” Dannie admits. “I’m so sorry. I stopped by the hospital first thing this morning to bring my mom a change of clothes. She hasn’t left Victor’s side since he was admitted last night.” Kaylie says. “On the plus side, it does sound like he’s going to make a full recovery.” Dannie says. “Thank god. How is Andy handling all of this? I’m sure it can’t be easy, dealing with the guilt of what happened.” Kaylie says. “He’s taking it pretty hard. Not only that, but he is also dealing with a lot with Rebecca and Ava too. I’m worried about him.” Dannie admits. “Well hopefully everything works out, for everyone! By the way, how are you doing?” Kaylie asks. “I’m a little disappointed to see my family in such distress.” Dannie admits. “I can imagine, but I was mainly talking about everything going on with Scarlett. You and I haven’t talked since the gala.” Kaylie notes. “That’s because I haven’t really felt in the mood to talk to anyone. Whatever was between Scarlett and I has been destroyed, and I have no one to blame but myself.” Dannie says.
At Fantastic Medical, Theo is sitting in his office when he hears a knock at the door. “Come in!” Theo urges. The door opens and Scarlett walks in. “Hi!” Scarlett greets him. “Hi! Good morning! What brings you by so early?” Theo wonders. “Well first and foremost, I’d like to collect some feedback on how things have been at the hospital lately.” Scarlett says. “You mean since you removed Doctor Acerbi as chief of staff?” Theo asks. “Yeah, since then. I know it’s only been a day, but I’m just trying to get a feel of how everyone is liking working with Doctor Mancini.” Scarlett says. “He’s…a character.” Theo admits. “You don’t like him.” Scarlett assumes. “He’s going to take some getting used to, but ultimately I do think the work environment will be less toxic now that Acerbi is gone.” Theo says. “And that’s what I was going for! Regardless of the kind of doctor Acerbi was, she was making life miserable for a lot of the staff here!” Scarlett says. “Including you.” Theo notes. Scarlett nods. “Including me.” Scarlett repeats. “Speaking of which, I’ve been meaning to reach out after everything that went down the other night.” Theo says. “I’ve been meaning to reach out to you too.” Scarlett admits. “Why? Is everything okay?” Theo asks. Scarlett shakes her head. “No. I…I don’t think my medication is working anymore.” Scarlett confesses.
Outside Jasmine’s apartment in Brooklyn, Dylan collapses to the floor, holding his eyes. “What the hell did you do that for?!” Dylan questions. “Are you for real right now?! Some strange man tries to force his way into my place and I’m just supposed to roll out the red carpet and let him in? The cops are on their way, by the way!” The woman states. “You called the cops?!” Dylan questions. “I could’ve taken you on my own, but I figured you’d rather leave here in handcuffs than on a stretcher.” The woman says. “My eyes feel like they’re about to fall out, so the jury is still out on that one! For the record though, you are Jasmine Morales, yes?” Dylan asks. “Yes! Not really sure why it matters!” Jasmine says. “I just wanted to talk.” Dylan says. “Right, sure you did! I’d say I’ve heard that one at least a zillion times.” Jasmine says. “Does that make me a zillion and one?” Dylan asks. “That isn’t funny!” Jasmine tells him. “You’re right, it wasn’t. Sorry about that.” Dylan says. The elevator doors open and a cop steps off the elevator. “What seems to be the problem, ma’am?” The officer asks. “This creep tried to force his way into my apartment!” Jasmine tells the cop. “No I didn’t! I asked to come in, she said she’d let me, and then she came at me with a bottle of pepper spray!” Dylan says. “To defend myself!” Jasmine snaps. “From what? Friendly conversation?” Dylan asks. The cop looks down at Dylan. “Wait a minute…Dylan Stanpatos?” The cop asks. Dylan looks up at the cop and his eyes widen when he sees him. “Aaron?” Dylan asks. “Oh you have GOT to be kidding me…” Jasmine mutters. Aaron helps Dylan up off of the floor. “My god, it has been forever! What are you doing around these parts?” Dylan questions. “I transferred here from the Fantastic P.D about six years ago when my husband got a job in the area. What about you? I thought I remember hearing that you had died, but I guess that was a crazy rumor.” Aaron assumes. “No, that was true. I was dead for a couple of years.” Dylan admits. “What?!” Jasmine asks. “Only in Fantastic City, right?” Aaron asks. Dylan smiles. “See? You get it!” Dylan says. “So what are you doing here?” Aaron questions. “Well I wanted to speak to this lovely woman about an important matter, but she seems pretty against the idea.” Dylan says. Aaron turns towards Jasmine. “Ma’am, I get why you’re worried, but you’ve got nothing to fear from this one. He’s one of the good guys.” Aaron says. “I’m not gonna take your word on that! You cops are all the same, you all cover each other’s asses!” Jasmine says. “Not a cop anymore. Like I said earlier, I’m a PI now.” Dylan points out. “Why would a PI even want to talk to me? I haven’t done anything wrong!” Jasmine states. “I know that, I’m not here because I think you did anything wrong. I’m here on behalf of your family.” Dylan tells her. Jasmine pauses for a moment before responding. “I don’t have any family.” Jasmine claims. “Is that right? You don’t have a mother or a sister who you haven’t spoken to since you were a teenager?” Dylan asks. “What the hell do you know about that?” Jasmine asks. “Let me in and I’ll tell you everything.” Dylan says. Jasmine hesitates for a moment, but then turns towards Aaron. “You can go now. I think I’ve got the situation under control.” Jasmine says. “I think so too. Clearly this guy isn’t any match for you.” Aaron says. Dylan smiles. “Clearly not.” Dylan agrees. “Alright, I’m gonna head out then. Good luck you two.” Aaron says. “Good seeing you again, Aaron. Maybe you, me, and the hubby can grab a drink before I leave New York.” Dylan suggests. “Sure thing, man. Look me up!” Aaron urges. “Will do. Later.” Dylan says. Aaron steps back onto the elevator and Dylan turns back towards Jasmine. “So, where were we?” Dylan asks. “We were about to have that conversation you keep insisting on. Come in.” Jasmine urges.
At The Coffee Bean, Kaylie returns to the table and hands Dannie a cup of coffee. “Here’s your refill.” Kaylie says. “Thank you.” Dannie says. Kaylie sits back down across from Dannie. “So a little birdie told me that Acerbi got fired after the whole gala debacle, the birdie being Acerbi herself.” Kaylie says. “As much as I hate to say it, she deserved it. What she did to Scarlett was wrong, but she never would’ve been able to fire the gun had I not given her the bullets. Olivia wouldn’t have known about those syringes if I hadn’t told her. I should’ve known better.” Dannie says. “Obviously you going to Acerbi with the info about Scarlett probably wasn’t the best idea, but it isn’t the end of the world. Just look at how much Bethany and I have come back from!” Kaylie points out. “You and Bethany have a lot more history than Scarlett and I do. Scarlett hasn’t been around me enough to want to forgive me.” Dannie argues. “Maybe, but I still don’t think you should give up. You just need to prove to Scarlett how sorry you are and prove how much she means to you.” Kaylie says. “I know, I’m just not sure how I’m going to do that. It’s funny, if any of my patients were in my position, I’d have no problem coming up with some advice on what they should do next. But when I’m the one this is happening to, I’m completely lost.” Dannie says. “Are you the doctor and the patient here? Because they say doctors make the worst patients.” Kaylie points out. “I don’t know, I think the doctor side of me is the one slacking right now. I’m just not so sure how I’m supposed to approach this. Do I give Scarlett space? Do I make some over the top gesture to prove to her how sorry I am?” Dannie asks. “My advice would be to do whatever feels true to you. I don’t think over the top is really your style, so maybe scratch that idea. For you, I think just letting Scarlett know you aren’t giving up on your relationship is enough right now, especially where the wounds are still fresh for her. There’s only so much you can do, right?” Kaylie says. “Right…besides, I think Scarlett has bigger problems at the moment. I mean, here I am whining about the state of our relationship, and Scarlett is currently fighting for her life. I’m terrified for her.” Dannie admits.
In Theo’s office at Fantastic Medical, Scarlett sits across the desk from Theo. “So my symptoms have been getting worse these past few days, and the medication no longer seems to be doing it’s job.” Scarlett says. “Right…I can run some more tests to see exactly how far your illness has progressed.” Theo says. “That’d be great. Thank you.” Scarlett says. “You’re welcome.” Theo responds. “Theo, can you be straight with me for a moment?” Scarlett asks. “Of course. What’s up?” Theo asks. “Do you think there’s any chance of me beating this?” Scarlett wonders. “I wouldn’t be trying so hard to save you if I believed you were doomed. The only reason this illness is considered terminal is because it’s not common enough or even well known enough for medical professionals to care about finding a cure. I do care, and I’m not going to rest until I get to the bottom of this.” Theo says. “Realistically speaking though, with everything you know about my illness and how bad I’ve gotten, how much time would you say I have left?” Scarlett asks. “I’d rather not speculate.” Theo says. “Please Theo, just-just humor me.” Scarlett urges. Theo sighs. “Okay…with everything I know, I…I would say you probably have about a month left…at most.” Theo says. Scarlett tries to hold back tears. “It’s only going to get worse from here, isn’t it? Eventually I’ll be so sick, I won’t even be able to leave my bed. All hope really is lost.” Scarlett assumes. “Please don’t say that! I’m exploring different options and I’m getting closer to discovering a cure, I know I am!” Theo says. “But do you think you’re close enough where you’ll discover one in under a month? Probably not!” Scarlett notes. “Maybe-maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea if you were to go back to Australia to be with your family.” Theo suggests. Scarlett shakes her head. “No, I don’t want them to see the woman I’m about to become. I want them to remember me for who I was, not the frail and weak person I’m about to become.” Scarlett says. “I’m not giving up.” Theo assures her. “I already have. I’m going to die, and there isn’t a thing I can do about it.” Scarlett says.
Inside Jasmine’s apartment in Brooklyn, Dylan is sitting on the sofa as Jasmine looks down at him. “Aren’t you gonna offer me some ice for my eyes?” Dylan asks. “I’m still not convinced you didn’t deserve it. Now what was this about my family?” Jasmine asks. “You may want to sit down for this.” Dylan suggests. “I’d prefer to stand. Thanks.” Jasmine says. “Okay…your mother had a heart attack. She passed away a few days ago.” Dylan reveals. Jasmine’s eyes widen. “I-I had no idea.” Jasmine says. “I didn’t think you did. I’m still not sure on the specifics, or even if there are any.” Dylan says. “Did Bethany send you?” Jasmine wonders. “Her girlfriend did.” Dylan reveals. “Bethany’s gay?” Jasmine asks. “Bisexual.” Dylan responds. “Oh yeah, come to think of it, I do remember Bethany having a thing with a girl in high school. She said she was just experimenting at the time, but I’m guessing that was because she knew Mami would flip her lid if she found out she had a bi daughter.” Jasmine says. “I’m pretty sure the girl you’re referring to is the same one Bethany is dating now.” Dylan says. “Kaylie?” Jasmine asks. “That’s her.” Dylan says. “No way! I always did like her. Personally, I thought she was way too good for my little sister.” Jasmine says. “They seem pretty happy together.” Dylan notes. “So if Kaylie sent you, does that mean Bethany doesn’t know about this?” Jasmine wonders. Dylan looks down at the floor and doesn’t say anything. “I guess that answers my question.” Jasmine says. “It’s possible Kaylie has told Bethany by now. I’m not really sure.” Dylan says. Jasmine sits on the couch next to Dylan. “What is it you were hoping to gain from this little visit?” Jasmine wonders. “Family is important during times of loss. Kaylie and I thought that maybe you might want to come back to Fantastic and try to patch things up with Bethany.” Dylan says. Jasmine shakes her head. “Sorry, not interested.” Jasmine tells him. “What happened between you and Bethany was a long time ago.” Dylan points out. “You have no idea what happened between Bethany, Mami, and I!” Jasmine snaps. “I know you joined some group.” Dylan says. “You can use the correct word. It was a cult. I know that now, and I feel like a complete idiot for ever falling for it.” Jasmine admits. “You aren’t an idiot. Cult leaders are usually charismatic and convincing. They can sell the most ridiculous concepts to the most intelligent people just by using their charm alone. There’s nothing wrong with you.” Dylan says. A brief smile crosses Jasmine’s face. “Thank you for saying that. I regret a lot that went down between my family and I, but the last words we exchanged before I left home convinced me that I made the right choice. Maybe not joining the cult, but definitely leaving home. Mami told me that the second I walked out that door, that I better not ever come back, that I wouldn’t be family anymore. Those were my mother’s words, and Bethany did nothing to stand up for me.” Jasmine recalls. “I know words hurt, but I’m sure Bethany feels really bad about what happened.” Dylan claims. “Then why is Kaylie the one who sent you? Bethany doesn’t give a damn about me, so why should I give a damn about seeing her?” Jasmine questions. “Bethany probably doesn’t want to talk to you because she thinks you don’t want to see her.” Dylan assumes. “Well she’s right about that, I don’t want to see her. I’m afraid you’ve wasted a trip, because I’m not going back with you. You can pass the message along to Bethany’s girlfriend, maybe she’ll go and tell Bethany and then Bethany can feel validated about her feelings towards me.” Jasmine says. “I get it. I’m not gonna force you into doing something that you don’t feel comfortable doing.” Dylan says. “Well I hope Kaylie still pays you for your time.” Jasmine says. “Kaylie isn’t paying me anything. I agreed to do this all for free.” Dylan says. “Seriously? I was right, you are strange.” Jasmine says. “I’ve been called worse. But in fairness to Kaylie, I owe her a favor or two or ten.” Dylan says. “Well hopefully your next job is more profitable.” Jasmine says. “I hope my next job is more successful. I really thought I could sway you, and there’s nothing I hate more than a bruised ego.” Dylan jokes. “It’ll match your burned eyes.” Jasmine adds. Dylan smiles. “Well, I’ll get out of your hair then. One last thing though, do you know of any good hotels or motels in the area? I’m probably gonna stick around Brooklyn for another day so I can have that drink with Aaron.” Dylan says. “Can’t you just look some places up?” Jasmine asks. “You’re a local, I thought maybe you’d have the inside track on which ones are any good and which ones I should avoid altogether.” Dylan says. “Try the Fluffy Pillow Motel. It’s about ten minutes down the road and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.” Jasmine says. “Fluffy Pillow Motel, got it. Thanks for the suggestion.” Dylan says. “You’re welcome.” Jasmine responds. Dylan heads towards the door but then stops and turns back towards Jasmine. “My condolences about your mother. I know you two weren’t on the best of terms, but I also know what it’s like to have a complex relationship with a parent.” Dylan says. “Thank you.” Jasmine quietly tells him. Dylan nods. “You’re welcome. Take care.” Dylan says, before walking out. Once Dylan is gone, Jasmine lets out a deep sigh.
Out in the hallway, Dylan makes a call and Kaylie answers the phone. “Hey Dylan. How’s everything going in Brooklyn?” Kaylie asks. “Hi Kaylie. So like I told you over text, I managed to track Jasmine down. Interesting girl, that one.” Dylan says. “Good interesting or bad interesting?” Kaylie asks. “Depends on how you look at it. I definitely see the resemblance between her and Bethany though.” Dylan says. “So what’s the verdict? Is she gonna come back with you? At the very least, is she willing to think about talking to Bethany?” Kaylie asks. “Sorry to say, but no dice. Jasmine made it abundantly clear that she has no interest in working things out with Bethany.” Dylan reveals. “Damn. I was really hoping for a different outcome.” Kaylie says. “Yeah, me too. I’m sorry, I wish I had better news.” Dylan says. “You tried your best.” Kaylie says. “Yeah…anyways, I ran into an old friend I worked with at the Fantastic P.D, so I’ll probably stick around for another day just to catch up with him. I’ll be heading back tomorrow morning.” Dylan says. “Okay. See you when you get back. Thanks for trying to help.” Kaylie says. “Sure thing. I just wish I could have done more.” Dylan says, before hanging up. Once Dylan is off the phone, he turns to face Jasmine’s door.
Inside Jasmine’s apartment, Jasmine is looking at her mother’s obituary online. As Jasmine continues reading it, a tear rolls down her cheek…
